I’m sorry if I’m speaking with a lack of knowledge about your specific products. However, I have used the Canopus ADVC 100 (replaced by the 110) for several years to convert video from my Tivo and old VHS tapes. It’s pretty much a no-brainer: You plug the video and audio out of the source into the Canopus box and plug the box’s Firewire cable into your Mac’s Firewire port. iMovie recognizes it as though a camera were connected and you can “capture” (import) the feed directly into iMovie.
